The Unjust Abuse of Our Savior

Jesus is God's solution to the problem of injustice in this world, for He has appointed His Son to be ruler and judge. The Lord Jesus' judgment will be perfect and just, because He has all knowledge, and righteousness is His very being.

God specially appointed Jesus as the final judge because He is a man - made of flesh and bones like humanity whom He will judge. There is something in Christ's humanity that makes Him supremely fitted to be our judge.

Surely one factor is this: in His humanity, our Savior suffered the worst injustice at the hands of wicked men. Our just Judge knows personally, in His very body, what it feels like to suffer injustice, oppression, and false accusation when He was crucified to save the ones He loves.

Jewish rulers conspired to put on false testimony against Him at his trial. They demanded He defend Himself when there was no competent evidence against Him. They unlawfully struck Him in open court when they could not refute His testimony.

They convicted Jesus for telling the truth under oath, that He is the Son of God.

They made up completely different false charges against Him before Pilate. They appeared before that tribunal, not for justice, but for envy.

Pilate found Him to be innocent, yet brutalized Him to satisfy the mob.

Jewish leaders used political blackmail against Pilate to coerce an unjust sentence of the innocent Jesus. Pilate condemned Him to death to appease the mob.

Nobody knows what injustice feels like better than our Lord Jesus! What better man to be our Judge than such an one!

But praise God, He knows what justice for sinner feels like, for He suffered all God's wrath in our Place at Calvary!
