Edifying or destroying

Paul wanted his words to build up and not tear down. Unfortunately too many Christians are thinking that their aim is to build up or edify but because of their heart not being right they are actually demolishing others. Our speech should always be seeking to edify. Spiritual leaders have this responsibility. Are our words edifying or destroying? Do we seek opportunities to build someone up?
