Authentic Christianity - because there was a problem in that day, as there is in this day.Peter is warning about the presence of people who claim to be followers of Christ, but they are only make-believe Christians.God wants you to have a sense of security when it comes to your salvation. False teachers speak great swelling words to eloquently move their hearers but their claims are empty and worthless. Empty wells and wind clouds. From a distance they appear to be genuine but after all is said and done, there is nothing but emptiness, the water of life has been withheld. There is in mankind an inborn thirst for reality, for God. People attempt to satisfy this thirst in many ways, and they end up living on substitutes. Only Jesus Christ can give inner peace and satisfaction.The dog and the hog are just two other illustrations describing the emptiness and depravity of these false teachers. YOU CAN CLEAN A PERSON UP ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT UNLESS THEIR INNER NATURE IS CHANGED, THEY WILL ALWAYS RETURN TO SIN.If you have received Jesus Christ in your heart, you have a different nature. To you, sin is as revolting as dogs vomit and hog slop.
