The Meaning of Life
This sermon was preached to a gathering of our community on the event of the Humphrey's Academy Baccalaureate service at First Baptist Church - Belzoni, on the occasion of the graduation of HA's Class of 2026.
What is the meaning of life? What does God want you to know?
- What He requires of you
a. Fear God
b. Keep His commandments - Why He requires it of you.
c. This is "the whole of man"--what it means to be human.
d. God brings every deed into judgment, known and unknown
The meaning of life is found not in human achievement, pleasure, or worldly success, but in fearing God and keeping His commandments—a call rooted in the wisdom of Ecclesiastes and fulfilled in Christ. It argues that true humanity is defined by reflecting God's character through obedience, not self-achievement, and that this duty is both the purpose and the fulfillment of human existence. God's judgment is inescapable, yet His grace through Jesus Christ offers redemption, transforming human failure into divine purpose and making even our accomplishments holy. Ultimately, the message is one of hope: despite human frailty and the inevitability of judgment, those who trust in Christ are reconciled to God, their lives are made meaningful, and they can face the future with confidence, knowing they are secure in His love and faithfulness.
