Standing Stones

After the Israelites crossed the Jordon River, God instructed Joshua to take 12 stones from the middle of the Jordon and set them as a memorial to remind the people what God had done there. The use of stones to remind the Israelites of God and His faithfulness is found many times in the Old Testament. They were used to help the people remember God’s working in their lives and so help to build their faith. They also were used as a way to teach their children about God. Another purpose of the stones was to point unbelievers to God. In the New Testament, we are called to be living stones, living in such a way that we point people to God by our actions and words.
