Christ Arose

J Gresham Machen observed during his time in France in WWI that the gospel offered by the main-line liberal churches, devoid of the resurrection offered no hope to men facing death daily.

Only the true gospel of Christ's atonning death and real bodily resurrection from the dead offers any real hope.

Jesus was revived - there is no hope in a revived Jesus - Jesus was raised from the dead in his glorifed body. Thus, he will never die again. Romans 6:9-10 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.

Colossians 1:18 [Jesus is] The firstborn from the dead. Notice he is not the "only" born, but the "first" born from the dead. All who call upon Christ by faith will be raised in glorified bodies just as Christ was. This is the true hope of resurrection and why Paul says we are most to be pittied if there is no resurrection from the Dead (1 Corinthians 15:12-20).

Romans 4:25 says ...[Jesus] was raised for our justification. What does this mean. the "for" should be read, "because of," or "on accopunt of." Thus Jesus was raised from the dead, "because" or justification was complete. "It is finished" meant, It is finished. Redemption was accomplished, sealed by the resurrection because the full penalty on sin was complete.
