Being Connected to the True Vine
In this passage, Jesus uses the example of a vineyard to describe our relationship with Him. He uses 4 symbols: the vine – Jesus; the gardener – God; the branches – believers; fruit – evidence that the branches are connected to the vine. Jesus uses this comparison to tell us that we need to be connected to Him to live and grow spiritually and to bear fruit for God. He is the true vine – the perfect, complete, enduring source of nourishment we need to bear fruit that gives glory to God and lasts even beyond this life. Being connected to Him means being in the Word and prayer and trusting in Him alone for our strength and salvation.
