Are You Ready for Easter?
Opening Comments:
1. And it came about when Jesus had finished all these
words – 1
2. In last 3 ½ chapters, He had spoken almost without
interruption
3. He said to His disciples, know the Son of Man is to be
delivered up for crucifixion - 2
4. Plot to kill Jesus – 3-5
5. The many responses to what was happening in Matt. 26.
6. 2 people stand out in the crowd, first Simon the Leper
- 6
At the home of a friend for a meal – (7-13)
1. The woman's retort – (7) – pours perfume on His head
2. The disciple's reaction – (8-9) - They were angry with
indignation - 8
○ They considered this a waste, a complete loss.
○ There is a better option – (9)
○ Everyone else seemed to be living in the moment,
she did not.
○ Had they forgotten for a moment why Jesus was
here?
3. Jesus' response – (10-13)
○ Why do you bother/trouble her? Leave her alone
– (10)
○ It's not about her or the poor, but me (11) and she
understands this
○ Her motive was pure as the perfume she seemingly
wasted – (12)
○ What she has done will make a difference in
people's lives – (13)
■ Because it is done for the sake of the gospel.
■ She is called a woman, but you have heard and share
the gospel in memorial to her.
■ She was ready for Easter!
■ A stark contrast to most others.
Closing Comments:
● As part of Palm Sunday, leading up to Easter, this
appears to be what it is about.
