God's Shocking Grace

God's command to Abraham to sacrifice his son, his only son, Isaac is shocking. Yet in this action not only is the promise to Abraham confirmed and strengthened, but the Promise of the Seed (as in Genesis 3:15) is confirmed for the nations. The action by which he would crush the Serpent's head and thus possess the gate of his enemies is shown to be entirely that of atoning grace.
