Apocalypto and the death of death

Gibson's Apocalypto has entertained audiences on both sides of the Atlantic who have spent millions to watch it despite its gratuitous violence. Some think it tells us more about the producer than it does about the Mayans, if so it tells us more about our society too. There is an intimate connection between the mayans as depicted in the film and archaeological dicoveries and our text, though they may appear poles apart at first sight.
