Particular Election
The background behind this 40 year old sermon (posted by Jon Cardwell on March 15, 2010, with the permission of the leadership of Heritage Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA.) was provided by Brother Fred Picard, deacon of Heritage Baptist Church:
Don McKinney's brother Dee studied Greek and the Lord showed him the truth about Sovereign Grace.
As Brother McKinney began embracing the doctrines of God's sovereign grace, he later began preaching those doctrines at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church where he ministered.
There was some very hostile reactions from some of the church members. The Superintendent was finally brought in for a meeting at the church. This message, "Particular Election," taken from the text found in 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14, was the message Pastor McKinney preached that day.
"All of those who believed what Brother Mac was preaching were asked to stand; then we were asked to depart." That was March 3, 1970, which was the beginning of Heritage Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA.
With only a small group of believers, 47 active members at the time, the church met in a judges office for a few weeks and later rented the old Chamber of Commerce building.
God provided the congregation with a very nice building a few years later.
By God's grace, Heritage Baptist Church has grown in grace and have been strengthened in faith by Brother McKinney's passionate exposition of God's truth.
