Sensing Your Forgiveness
LESSON: The more you sense your forgiveness the more you'll love Christ and others.
NOTES & QUOTES: (Dan Broadwater)
Q: How does a sinful woman show up at a Pharisee’s house?
Ans: v.37 She learns Jesus is there and seems to invite herself, taking advantage of a culture which permits entrance to anyone who shows up to visit.
“I’d have a hard time washing anyone’s feet; And for me to kiss them would be nearly impossible. Christ had a profound effect on this woman.”
In America when we invite dinner guests we greet them, show them where to wash up before the meal, etc. Simon showed none of these courtesies to Jesus, but the woman showed them all.
Isn’t it great to know Jesus has the power to say: “Your sins are forgiven”?
Some doubt his power to forgive (v.49) but I hope you believe that in Jesus your sins are forgiven.
“The woman was not forgiven because she loved; the woman loved because she was forgiven.
Our forgiveness comes through faith, in Christ (v.50).”
Q: Why was Simon’s love small and the woman’s great?
Ans: She was overcome by Christ’s forgiveness; Simon was not.
Your love for Christ is connected to your sense of his forgiveness.
Q: Fellow Believers: How can we grow a greater love for Christ like this woman? How can we love Christ more? Ans: Think about your forgiveness. Each day, remember Christ forgives you. Remember often that Jesus has cancelled your debts.
