Here a Little, There a Little
Many errors in Christian doctrine arise from a failure to closely examine the context of the bible's statements as well as from building one's doctrine "here a little" without the truth shaping testimony of "there a little." The "here a little" statement "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9) is only properly understood when reconciled alongside the Lord's "there a little" testimony that "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (Matthew 12:34), and Paul's own testimony regarding the faithless and God hating state of the unregenerate (Romans 3:10-18, 8:7).The exercise of reconciling these seemingly conflicting testimonies is Right Division and it is essential to a right understanding of the bible.
