It also Figures throughout History, as we discover first, there was a grave dug there, Rachel's grave. There was also a gate there where Boaz, the kinsman redeemer purchased Ruth the Moabitess and brought her even into the line of David the king. There was a well at Bethlehem from which in devotion, ready to sacrifice their own lives, David's mighty men brought to their king a refreshing drink of water. But there was also a prophecy about Bethlehem. In Micah 5:2 the Shepherd-King whose goings forth have been from eternity was to be born there. Born to watch over His flock and bring them peace. Luke 2:1-7 reveals that there was a manger there for the Saviour, Christ the Lord. Finally, this town not only Dates from Antiquity, Figures throughout History but it also Settles our Destiny. Where we will spend eternity depends upon our relationship to the One who was born there. In Luke 2, the Shepherds came to the manger to find the Saviour, while in Matthew 2 three wise men come to the King and bow the knee to Him.
