Philippians

Context: Author: Paul
Recipient: Church in Philippi (in Macedonia, near Modern-day Kavala, Greece) coastal town East of Thessaloniki and across from the Island of Thasos.
Date: 60-62 AD about 30 years post resurrected Christ.
Context: The first church in Europe (Acts 16:8-10) in which Paul had a vision of a man standing and urging him to come over to Macedonia.
Situation: Paul’s first imprisonment in Rome where he also wrote Ephesians, Philemon, and Colossians.
Church: The church in Philippi is a healthy, strong vibrant church.
Theme: Heavy emphasis on Christlikeness and based on the teachings of Christ. This book contains some of the deepest theological elements of Christ's teaching in the whole New Testament.

Paul begins this letter with thanksgiving, as the state of the Church brings him joy for their faithfulness to Christ.
