One true religion vs man-made religion
Hi! I was pleasantly surprised to hear a South African accent at the G3 conference with Virgil and Scott. I searched your name to see if you are ministering in SA b. When I googled you, your sermon page came up and this sermon caught my eye.
I hear many people say 'I don't follow a religion, I have I relationship with God', but don't you think people are conflating the words 'legalism, 'man-made religion' and 'religion'? It's as if there is a war on the word 'religion".
Christianity is the one true religion in that we hold a specific and true set of beliefs about who God is, our reason for existence, salvation, the after-life and how to live a life that pleases, glorifies and honours God.
Of course, we don't live by empty religious rituals and rules.
But when people say 'relationship not religion' I feel like we water down the truth of God to mean we can live by mere personal experiences, impressions and even signs - what we 'feel' God might be saying or want for us, rather than living in reverence to our mighty God who has given us His word with very clear instructions on how we ought to think, live and worship Him. I actually think, we need to reclaim the word 'religion' as our fundamental beliefs revealed to us in God's word and in and through Christ himself.
