Seven Deadly Sins Part 1

On the one hand, the Bible teaches there are more than 7 deadly sins as seen by the lists of deadly sins found in…I Cor. 6:9 & 10, Gal. 5:19-21, Eph. 5:5; I John 3:15; & Rev. 21:8,27, & 22:15. But on the other hand…in harmony with Prov. 6:16-19, "These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him," Holy Writ here isolates seven deadly sins of special note. And when these Proverbs 6 sins are put in the order of 'a proud look,' 'he that soweth discord among brethren,' 'hands that shed innocent blood,' 'an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,' 'feet that be swift in running to mischief,' 'a lying tongue,' & 'a false witness that speaketh lies;'…with some special reference to the teaching of…St. Gregory the Great who died in 604, these are exampled by, & respectively become in Anglican tradition, what Article 35, Book 2, Homily 21 refers to when saying '… sins which if a man list to name by the accustomed names of the seven capital or deadly sins, … pride, envy, wrath, covetousness, sloth, gluttony, & lechery' or fornication. In today's 1st sermon we shall now consider the 1st 5 deadly sins of: pride, envy, wrath, covetousness, & sloth; & in the 2nd of today's sermons, the 6th & 7th deadly sins of gluttony & fornication, after first considering some relevant matters in the Anglican Office of Great Fire of London Day in connection with the fact that a service was annually held at St. Paul's Cathedral in London till 1859."
