Providential Power
Series Esther
Here the series on Esther closes by reflecting on chapter 10. It highlights two contrasting figures: King Ahasuerus, whose supposed power is fleeting and superficial, and Mordecai, exalted by God to serve His people. Benjamin points out that the true ruler throughout the book is not the Persian king but God, who providentially raised Mordecai to protect and bless the Jews. This pattern points beyond Esther to Christ, the supreme Servant exalted to reign for the good of His church, using His authority to overcome all enemies, even death. Believers, like Israel in Esther's day, can therefore have joy, confidence, and comfort, knowing Christ rules for their benefit. The sermon concludes by urging prayer that God would continue raising up faithful servants today, and that His people, in their own spheres, would show Mordecai's character in advancing God's kingdom.
