Barabbas

Guilty Barabbas was released, and innocent Jesus was convicted. God’s judgment for sinners fell on Jesus: “the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6). It is substitutionary atonement. It is the great exchange. It is the greatest good news the world has ever known so long as you see that that substitution was necessary for your sins to be forgiven. You see, you and I are like Barabbas. The wrong person was released, and the wrong person scourged and crucified, but God used all these wrongs to make everything right. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5:21). Hallelujah, what a Savior!
