From Lies to Liberty
The Veil of Pride
Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:14–16 that the veil remains over the hearts of those who cannot see Christ. That veil is not just a Hebrew problem — it is a human problem. Pride blinds us. Pride is the curse upon all humanity, the fallen nature that resists God's truth. The gospel is veiled until the Spirit removes that barrier. Man cannot overcome the veil on his own. It is only when the Spirit of the Lord comes that there is liberty — liberty from blindness, liberty from unbelief, liberty to see Christ and follow Him.
False Belief vs. True Belief
Jesus made this distinction plain in John 8. Some "believed" Him, but their belief was superficial. They agreed with His words, but they did not entrust themselves to Him. When He spoke of their bondage to sin, they resisted, insisting, "We are Abraham's descendants… we have never been in bondage" (John 8:33). Their belief was not saving faith.
True faith takes Jesus not only at His words but also at His person. It is entrusting oneself to Him as Lord. Many today believe about Jesus, but not in Jesus. They affirm His teachings when they fit their own schemes, but they do not surrender. Some believe Him "for something" — peace, comfort, relief — but not for who He is. That is not saving faith. Saving faith continues in His word. "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31–32).
The Liberty of the Spirit
