1Sam012 Saul Crowned As King
Series 1 Samuel
As chapter 10 ends, all Israel returns home to their tent and Saul returns to the family farm. The next time we see Saul, he is carrying his lunch pale home after a long day of work out in the fields. All this tells us that even though Saul has been designated as king, he is not yet actually functioning as king. The events of chapter 11 provide the record of Saul's confirmation as king and then his subsequent crowing as king. In view of this clarification, it is easy to see that verse 14 does not refer to the renewal of Saul kingship, rather, it refers to the renewal of the Lord's kingship over Israel. So, chapter 11 is about the events leading up to and including Saul's coronation and then chapter 12 will unfold the events surrounding the renewal of the Lord's kingship referred to in 11:14. This message concludes with application about the right necessity of fighting for Christian convictions and principles when evil threatens to enslave and silence believers.
