A Message for the 21st Century Church

This introductory overview of the epistle sets the context for the forthcoming series of messages concerning the details of the epistle's contents. It was a powerful call to the believers of the 1st century that they would have to gain the discernment they needed to expose and to root out of the church those false teachers who had gained entrance there. It is a message for believers today when the false teachers are often under the guise of the leaders of the so-called emergent or emerging church. Peter rejected the foundation of experience in favor of the foundation of inspired Scripture. On that foundation, he could urge the believers to look toward the coming of the day of the Lord and to keep a very loose hold on the material aspects of this present world.
