Baptism in the Bible

The last couple of weeks we have been looking at the important doctrines that the Bible tells us to guard. These are the doctrines that if we get them wrong we lose the core of the Gospel. We lose our salvation. The first was an understanding of who Jesus is. He is the center of the good news. He is fully God and fully man, able to be a representative for man and a spokesman for God. The second area that we looked at was the word of God. A true believer bases his hopes in what the word says. The word is our authority so we listen to it and obey its commands. It shows us the way to be saved, to be reconciled to God. It is also the very breath of God and profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction to help us to grow into completely mature Christians. It is there to help us and show us the path on which we should walk. Lastly we looked at way to obtain this gift of salvation. It was through faith or believing in what God has promised. We can’t add anything to it and think that we are pleasing God, nor is it something we work up. It is something we cast ourselves onto in trust of what we read. Lord, You have said it so I am going to believe and obey. Today it is fitting to look at something that is tied to salvation and that is baptism. What is it, what does it mean, and who should be baptized.
