Faith's Mother
Series Hebrews
We have seen how faith is the substance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. We have seen that Abel worshiped by faith, Enoch walked by faith, Noah built an ark by faith, and Abraham left Ur by faith. But today the example is going to hit a lot closer to home. None of you, I think, has ever had to move to Canaan, build an ark, or offer a sacrifice alongside your brother. But many of you have had to do the faith-driven activity that our text describes today. I'm speaking, of course, of bearing children. Sarah received the strength to conceive seed by faith. And that, sisters, is the only way you can fulfill your calling to be mothers. Nothing short of the power of God can give to a woman the strength to carry a child. Yes, Sarah had some special circumstances that made her pregnancy more remarkable than most, but the basic point is that faith brought a faithful seed to Sarah and Abraham. So that's the first place where the rubber of faith meets the road of obedience in our text today. We will see that faith enables you to bear children in hope — and also that faith enables you to transcend death and exile to find a homeland called Heaven. Faith is how you live and how you give life.
