The Doctrine of the Resurrection

At the end of 1 Timothy Paul cries out to Timothy, “Oh Timothy, guard what was committed to your trust.” Last week we looked at the first of the doctrines to which the Bible clearly commands us to hold. It was the doctrine of Christ in 2 John. There were many that were saying that Jesus the Christ had not come in the flesh. There were those who wanted Jesus to be just another man, a good man, a good teacher, but less than He was. With those that hold this error we were forbidden from fellowshipping or even wishing them God’s blessings in travel. They were deceivers. They were described as an antichrist and without God. They were no help and robbed men who listened to them. Today we want to look at another doctrine that goes along with this, the doctrine of the resurrection. There were at least two references to those who believed that the resurrection was past and had overthrown the faith of some. They had caused some to stumble to the point of falling away from the true knowledge of God and into error. They had started people on a path which ended in death, not life. So Paul twice warned both Timothy and the churches about these deceivers. Let’s look at his warning in 2 Timothy.
