Gideon's Fleece
Series Series in Judges
Aim: To learn to live by faith in Christ—implicitly trusting Him.
Doctrine: Gideon's fleece reminds us that God is very gracious with His church. The Lord's patience with us is remarkable, even long after our assurance should have been well-established.
Exegesis: What the church is to make of Gideon's fleece: that believers are often uncertain—despite God's overt clarity (vv. 36-37); that God is kind—being willing to condescend to us (v. 38); that our Lord is very forbearing—being willing to accommodate our weakness (vv. 39-40).
Further application: What we are to learn today, from Gideon's fleece: that God is most honored when we walk by faith (and not by sight), but that He will at times specially confirm us (when necessary).
Key verse: v. 40 ''And God did so that night. It was dry on the fleece only, but there was dew on all the ground.''
