The Church's Official Affirmation of the Gospel 2
Series How the Church is Assured
Five Arguments why Paul's Gospel is true:
- He received it directly from Christ, 1:11-17
- He had no influence from the apostles 1:18-20
- He had no influence from the Judean churches 1:21-22
- Because the church at Jerusalem affirmed it, Gal 2:1-10
Six facets in Paul's argument that he had the true gospel: - The people of the trip (Paul, Barnabas, Titus), Gal 2:1
- The prompting of the trip – Revelation from God, v2
- The purpose of the trip – to communicate the True Gospel, v2
- The privacy of the trip – met privately with the leaders (those who seem to be of reputation)
- The product of the trip – 6 items
a. The gospel had not been preached in vain among the gentiles. He didn't want the harmony of the church to broken.
b. The circumcision of the Gentiles was not required
c. The Judaizers were defeated
d. The truth of the gospel was officially recognized
e. The apostles added nothing new to Paul's gospel
f. The apostles encouraged Paul and Barnabas in their work for the gospel - The petition of the trip. Remember the poor
What we learn: - Never give up on the truth
- True harmony in the church is doctrinal harmony
- Even though the gospel goes out to different kinds of people, it's the same gospel
