Jacob flees from his brother, Esau, because his brother wanted to kill him for stealing the blessing. However, God reveals Himself to Jacob as the God of the covenant who is always with Him. Jesus points to this verse and says it is fulfilled in Him, the One who is the ladder between heaven and earth. He is the God who is always with us.
