Grounded in the Gospel

In these verses Paul lays out the centrality of the gospel by which the Christians in Corinth had been saved. This sermon carefully expounds every phrase and concept in these two foundational verses. We include key issues from previous parts of 1 Corinthians and their pertinence to chapter 15 on the resurrection.

The dangers of believing in vain is pertinent because 1 Corinthians 15:12 shows that some of them denied the resurrection of the dead. If the dead are not raised then Christ was not raised and thus they would have believed in vain!

Sound doctrine grounded in the doctrine of Christ and particularly the gospel of salvation must be preached to the church. It is on this gospel which they had heard from Paul, received, and took their stand through which they are being saved. We must also respond in faith to the gospel in order to be saved.
