ZECHARIAH: The Shepherd King & His Flock
Series Abiding in Christ
Zechariah speaks of Christ. He prophesied the Triumphal Entry (9:9). Christ is the humble King who entered Jerusalem on a donkey's foal.
Zechariah the prophet-priest became a shepherd. He was opposed by hirelings. His rods, Favor and Union were broken. Christ is the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep, favors His sheep, and unites His flock (John 10).
The Good Shepherd, like Zechariah, was lightly valued for thirty pieces of silver. Zechariah received 30 pieces of silver for his month as shepherd; Judas Iscariot received 30 pieces of silver as the price of betrayal. Zechariah's silver went to the priests and potter; Judas Iscariott's silver bought his burial potter's field as the silver that was hurled into the temple was used by the priests to buy it (Matthew 27; Acts 1).
Christ is the Shepherd smitten while the sheep flee (13:7).
