Disability Theology 101
Series Q & A: Jesus and His Disciples
The disciples showed that they had absorbed the standard rabbinical teaching of their time. They believed that every instance of physical disability must be the result of some person's sin, whether the disabled person or the parents of that person. The Lord Jesus Christ did not deny the reality of the disability, but He did deny the link that the disciples were making. While it is true that sin can lead to painful and sometimes enduring effects, the Lord made it clear that in this case, and in others as well, the disability had its roots in the purpose of God for the promotion of His glory.
