The Hour Has Come
Series Gospel according to John
When we are faced with a difficult choice we should remember Jesus and what he faced when his hour had come. Non-Jews taking an interest in him reminded Jesus of the promises that he would be 'a light to the Gentiles'. But that could only happen after he had put sin away by his self-offering on the cross. He would be glorified in the salvation of many sinners; but first he had to suffer. The Holy One would be 'made sin'. His divine anger against sin would be turned on himself. He would be Satan's victim. This was all too great to bear and forced him to say, 'What shall I say? Father, save me from this hour?' But he knew that God would only be the Saviour if he chose the way of the cross. When our Saviour prayed 'Father, glorify your name', a voice answered from heaven. Jesus pointed out that 'it was for your sakes'. This gospel Jesus taught of a Saviour crucified for us has been endorsed by God. How important that we heed it! It tells of victory over all the forces of darkness through the terrible choice made by Jesus. What is your choice?
