Why Christians Are Spiritually Starving | Sermon on John 6:25–29 |

Each one of us is possessed with a soul. None of the bread of this world will bring us inward joy, nor satisfy us, nor deliver us from the temptations, worries, concerns of this world unless we learn how to feed on Jesus.

John 6:25-29: The danger of coming to Christ for the wrong reasons: "Rabbi when did you come here?" Jesus doesn't answer the question, he addresses the motive of the heart. "Truly truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw the signs but because you ate your fill of the loaves."

Warning: The danger of using Christ for selfish gain: They're seeking Jesus to get their needs met.

How many of us have prayed to be healed just so that we could go back living our lives the way we always had? This means we only came to him so that we can selfishly fulfill our life plans.

How do we feed on Christ daily?

  1. It's believing and applying the whole Christ. His coming in the flesh and his sufferings. By applying Christ's life and death to our souls, we will have complete nourishment.
  2. To feed on Christ is to come before him in prayer.
  3. To feed on his wisdom means to be guided by his word.
  4. To feed and live by his power is to depend on him when you ask him.
  5. To feed on his righteousness by which you are justified before God.
  6. To feed the work of Christ as mediator to receive all good things through him.
  7. To feed on the promises of Christ by trusting in them.
  8. To feed on the commandments of Christ is to obey them.
Anyone who does not come fully comes deceitfully to Christ and departs without profit from Christ. But the person who truly enjoys Christ comes this way and receives the joy and the peace that this world cannot give.
