A Commendable 1st Century Teaching Elder

Though the writer of this epistle says little about himself, yet we can learn about him from these verses.

1. The modesty of the writer: 'an elder'.
2. The love of this elder.
3. The joy of this elder.
4. The wish, or prayer, of this elder.
   These verses give us a delineation of a true pastor and sets forth a pattern and example of good eldership.
