1 Peter 4:7-8
I. The Exhortation to Prayer
Serious
The Greek Word translated serious literally means “having a sound mind”.Watchful
This word is used 6 times in the NT and Peter uses it 3 times just in
this little book of I Peter. 1:13, 4:7, 5:8
Literally sober -- It is the opposite of drunkenness.
Your mind is alert and clear.
II. The Exhortation to Love v. 8
III. Love Covers a Multitude of Sins
It's a proverb, not a command.
Prov. 10:12
Hatred – the opposite of love stirs up strife
Love – on the other hand – leads to peace – love covers over those
irritating matters that cause friction among us.There are two keys to understanding this passage.
- The idea extends to covering the sins of another, not our own.
- The key word is “covered” and what it means.
covers = “to obliterate” or “make it disappear”.
We all want our own personal sins to be covered.
What types of sins should not be “covered”
