Characteristics of Love

Love in the marriage relationship and in the family is a matter of submitting to, and functioning under, the control of the Holy Spirit. Highlighted in this message is the role of the husband in which it becomes evident that his living in submission to the Spirit will result in love for his wife. It is the Spirit who generates in the believer the sacrificial, selfless quality of love upon which relationships are built and will thrive. This love will prove to be enduring and consistent, and most importantly, God-honoring. It is not conditioned by how one is treated, how one is responded to nor the surrounding circumstances.

This study of how love is to function is particularly critical because of the corrupted and distorted self-centered view of love our world has. The breakdown of relationships goes back to this core problem.
