Who Is the Restorer?
Series Equipping the Disciples
Theme: Jesus Who is our Sabbath gives full rest and restoration. In verses 6-7, we see the religious stakeout. The Pharisees only appeared holy outwardly, but inwardly they watched Jesus maliciously. We are to honor God inwardly and outwardly, not merely outward obedience, but obeying inwardly out of love. Secondly, in v. 8, we see the Savior's awareness. He is not taken by surprise by those who oppose Him, and His church can rest assured that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the church. Thirdly in vv. 9-10, we see the Savior's rest and restoration. Jesus shows He is the Lord of the Sabbath and that He has the power to restore. In this restoration, we see the glory of the gospel. We need to find our completeness in Christ alone. Finally in v.11, we see the religious fury. We should not be surprised when people despise the truth, but remember that the truth of the gospel is what will set people free. Come to Jesus and find your rest and restoration in Him.
