Submitting to One Another in Marriage: Stated Duties (17 of 24)
Series Ephesians
Sermon: Submitting to One Another in Marriage Pt. 2: Mutual Duties
Points:
In this message we consider the exhortations and teachings made by the Apostle Paul on the subject of marriage. This and the following verses in Ephesians 6 add content and emphasis to living a life of faith before the Lord.
In Ephesians 5:21 the general exhortation is given "submitting to one another in the fear of God." In the verses of our text this is applied to the institution of marriage. Specific duties are given to husband and wife and our obedience to them is a demonstration of our faith in God who so taught and instructed us with these commands. Essentially, wives are to submit and husbands are to love. Each of these instructions mean what they say and are illustrated by the life and sacrifice of Christ and his work of redemption.
The message is divided into the three sections:
I. Mutual Duties
II. Mutual Responsibilities
III. Mutual Benefits
