- Who are some people in your life that mistreat you?
A. Do not resist them (v. 39)
- What are some scenarios in your life in which you often seek revenge?
- Spouse
- Children
- Parents
- Love for self will drive you to revenge
B. Be generous to them (v. 40-42)
- What are some opportunities you have to be generous to those who take advantage of you?
- Romans 12: 14, 17, 19-21; 13:8-10 - Dealing with those who hate you (v. 43-48)
- Who are some people in your life that hate you?
A. Love your enemies (v. 44-45)
- What are some ways you can do good to your enemies?
- Reconciliation
- Engaging them
- Remember God's response to us when we were His enemies (Romans 5:8)
- "To return evil for good is devilish; to return good for good is human; to return good for evil is divine."
B. Loving only those who love you is not praiseworthy (v. 46-47)
- How can you develop a love for those who do not love you?
- Pray for them
- Do good to them
- Consider what God has done for you
- Do not seek out self-righteousness; instead, seek the character of God (Lev 19:2)
- What needs to grow or change in your pursuit of the character of God?
