(2) Do You See God's Glory?

Have you ever tried to describe a dream to a friend? It is strange isn't it? What was so vivid moments ago now seems to defy description no matter how they have shaken us.

In a similar way, Ezekiel struggled to convey his vision of God's glory. Throughout this chapter he is forced to use the language of analogy (e.g. likeness, appearance). He's at a loss for words. How do you describe the Niagara Falls to someone who hasn't been there? You can say they are big and loud, like a pounding thunderstorm. But words fall short and feel flat.

However hard Ezekiel's vision was to describe, it changed him. Ezekiel fell on his face before the likeness of the glory of the Lord. His response to the vision provides an important interpretive key. This vision is an overwhelming sensory experience meant to astonish us with a sense of God's indescribable majesty. God help us if we could shrug our spiritual shoulders after meeting this God of glory! Instead we should fall on our faces in total submission to this great God.
