Fast to be noticed by your Father in Heaven, not men
Series Matthew: Sermon on The Mount
What ever happened to fasting? Jesus speaks of fasting not as an end in itself, not a duty "for its own sake (but) as a means to dispose us for other duties" said Matthew Henry. It is there to "curb the flesh and the desires of it, and to make us more lively in religious exercises...". Prayer and fasting go together...in prayer we are seeking the will of our Father and we do so with fasting because more than food we feel our utter dependence on and need of our Lord. What are you facing that is insurmountable? Pray and fast!
