I. Question: Is the Law Sinful? (7);
Answer: Certainly not! The law is holy,
just, and good (12), and spiritual
(14).

II. Our Difficulty is Not with the Law.
Our Real Problem Since the Fall is
that We Have Two Sources of
Contentment (8-11)

A. One source of contentment rooted in
covetousness: Change the law of
holiness into the law of sin; make
covetousness our law, and then we could
be happy in the sin we love (8-10)

B. Another source of contentment rooted in
Christ (the only source of true, holy,
and lasting contentment): Live in the
freeing power of Christ’s work in the
gospel; bring delight and duty
together, and then we will be truly
happy in obedience to the law we love
(8:1-4)
