Man of Sorrows, Man of Submission

The most powerful man in the world, the most exalted man, the most dignified man -- Jesus Christ -- was the most submissive man who ever lived. Christ's prayer in the garden exemplified His obedience: "Not my will, but what You will." Every moment of His life was an act of submission. He did nothing on His own initiative, and He spoke nothing except what the Father gave Him to speak. In today's world, Christ would be ridiculed as a slave or as a doormat. The world hates submission to authority and it hates the very word. Pastors fear preaching on submission to authorities, because they feel (right or wrong) that they will be met with great resistance. The problem is that we are proud, arrogant and self-serving, and we need more of the humble spirit of Christ in us. By His Spirit, we will discover that a life of submission is actually a life of freedom.
