Love's Fundamental Challenge

In the garden of Gethsemane, the disciples of Christ found their bravado put to the test. Peter, with the agreement of all the others, had proclaimed that he wouldd never deny the Lord even if it meant dying with the Lord. But in Gethsemane, the Lord did not ask for such heroics. He simply asked them to watch with Him during His hour of bitter agony. They found themselves not up to the task. They fell asleep. Christ's question on that occasion reminds us that protestation of love is not sufficient. Those who love Christ in truth will watch with Christ.
