James the son of Alphaeus: The Average Man

He is an example, some of have said, of the majesty of mediocrity. I think that is a mistake. He is instead an example of man as a medium or average. He is like the average man of any age or time. We refer to the average man of the 1800's or the average man of the middle ages;The average man of the iron age or stone age. Really the average man is a man we know nothing or practically nothing about. We one day like James will be swept away into the mean. Then we will be forgotten by all but God... From Him we average men and women will one day, like James, receive an eternal reward.
