The Intermediate State
Series 1 Corinthians Series
The creation account of man recorded in Gen. 1:26-27 is fundamental to explaining humanness. If we can explain humanness in a way different to how it was 'in the beginning,' then we have redefined man and God's image in man. While the final resurrection still awaits all those who die prior to Christ's return, when they will receive their glorified bodies, Scripture does not give us liberty to define man in any way we want. The sinner, man, is redeemed as a man, by the Man, Christ Jesus. The human body is not tacked onto humanness, but is essential to it according to the Scriptural definition of man. Thus, we ought to consider this carefully when thinking about the intermediate state (that time between the death and resurrection of our bodies). This sermon attempts to do just that.
