Grace is the Firm Foundation

Paul was very aware of his own unworthiness, but being aware of one's unworthiness is no excuse in God's Kingdom for not doing His will. We do God's will, not out of our ability or worthiness, but out of His abundant grace that He gives to us. This is Paul's point in these verses. Why this focus upon our unworthiness? Because it is the only foundation for true effectiveness in God's Kingdom. To have a Biblical perception or our unworthiness is vital because this drives us to the grace of God. If we just stop with Paul's evaluation of himself and agree that he was a terrible sinner, we learn nothing and do not move forward in our own Kingdom effectiveness. Our effectiveness in the Kingdom rests upon the foundation of God's grace, but we do not cast ourselves upon that grace if we think we are up to the task He has called us to.
