Redemption's Careful Resolution
Series The Book of Ruth
In most impressive fashion, Boaz moved immediately to secure the redemption of Ruth. As soon as the sun was high enough in the sky, he assembled a body of witnesses and put to the nearer kinsman (who, strikingly, is not named in the account) the opportunity that he had to buy the land that Naomi owned by right of inheritance. When the nearer kinsman indicated that he would buy it, Boaz added the other condition that Naomi had placed on the sale of the land. He would have to take Ruth as his wife to keep the memory of Elimelech and Mahlon from being extinguished in Israel. It was the unswerving purpose and great care that Boaz displayed that makes him such a vivid picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, the kinsman-redeemer of His people.
