Our Coming King

Jesus' entry to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday was a powerful statement of his identity and purpose. It also teaches us a great deal about him and our relationship with him. He was a welcomed king. Do we have the sense of expectancy they had? He was the rightful king. He fitted the Old Testament descriptions and the symbolism of Zechariah 9:9 was fitting. He was a king of a different kind, disregarding pomp and ceremony but saving his people from the great enemies of Satan, sin, and death. Within days he was a rejected king, but a king nevertheless who still comes to us in gospel power, laying claim on us, and gathering people to himself.
