State of Innocence – Adam was created with holy desires and morally right inclinations… capable of obedience, but at the same time, susceptible to temptation and sin – ‘holy fallibility.'

1st – Freedom—with power to please God – Genesis 1:26-31; 2:8-17 – Before they fell into sin, Adam and Eve lived within the perfect harmony of the moral and governmental framework of:

(1) God's sovereignty – Genesis 2:8-9

(2) Human responsibility – Genesis 2:15

2nd – Freedom—with the possibility of perishing – Genesis 2:16-17 – here we see the balance of:

(1) divine authority – Genesis 2:16

(2) human accountability – Genesis 2:17
